A friend at work was telling me about a chili her and her Grandma created when she was a teenager. She was about 13 when they felt it was perfected enough and entered it into the Iowa State Fair. And can you believe it? Her meatless chili won second place in the whole competition. Iowans are serious about their chili but after getting the recipe from her and making it ourselves, we can see why it won. It's wonderful and so easy peasy.
1 can black beans
1 can dark kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can white beans
1 can medium chili beans
1 can mild chili beans
1 can rotel tomatoes
2 cans petite cut tomatoes
1 32oz can tomato sauce
1 medium onion chopped
1 tsp cayanne pepper
2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp garlic salt (I used garlic powder)
2 tsp red pepper flakes (I omitted these)
2 tsp seasoning salt (also omitted this)
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp chili powder
Put everything into a crock pot and cook on high for 1-2 hours and 6 additional hours on low.
